A New Lease on Love with Leah Silverman

Passion Phase: Experienced Graphic Recorder (10-15 Years)

Leah Silverman; USA–Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Background: Fine Art, Design, Bartending, Bio-Tech; http://www.designbyleah.com

"A constant state of renewal," is how Leah Silverman described her relationship with Graphic Recording. But for many year she was reluctant to fall completely in love. "It was Peter Durand who dragged me from Pittsburgh to Ohio where I met Graphic Recording. I was around Grpahic Recording for about 7 years until I finally got the courage to take it to the next level. Now Graphic Recording and I have been together for 8 years, just the two of us. Now, I'm never bored. It's always a challenge. I wish I would have commited sooner. There have been some great dates where I've really been appreciated–even pampered. I've also had some awful dates we're I've been isolated in dark corners and felt taken for granted."

"I started later in life...I'm a late bloomer. Went back to get my masters in my early 40s which eventually led me to where I am now. To the other late bloomers: those coming late to love or coming out of a bad break up, or I say pursue the new interest. It has a lot to offer. But, it can't be all about the money though. It doesn't have to be a single date, collaborate and double date! To sustain the relationship you'll have to really love it and be ready to serve."

"What prepared me for this relationship is I have a degree in fine art from a very good art school, then I was a bartender and managed a blues club for many years–was a bartender forever. That helped me with this new phase of my life. I believe I'm in service to others. You have to be service oriented. Now, I get to meet thought leaders–all kinds of people smarter than me. It's a privilege just to be in the room a lot of times."

"My relationship with Graphic Recording has change me by helping me become more independent–not just financially. I've been able to travel by myself to different places and foreign cities. I've grown to be very self sufficient and able to stand up for myself more and be courageous. Because I really am a wall flower. Graphic Recording, thank you for bringing me out of my shell and for allowing me to be creative and take risks."

My graphic recording love

Thanks for the fun interview, Brandon! I want to expand on a few things. Peter introduced me to GR and I worked with his company Alphachimp Studio those first 7 years as a knowledge worker -- building websites and journaling written meeting notes in real time. When you refer to the two of us being together for the last 8 years you mean me and my love, GR. I've been graphic recording since 2010 and need to also give credit to Diane Bleck (Discovery Doodles) and Stephanie Crowley (The Chrysalis Studio) for giving me the extra push and confidence to stand in front of room and take visual notes. I have my own company, DesignbyLeah, but I have the wonderful opportunity to partner with other GR/GF companies. So for this upcoming Valentine's Day I want to share the GR love with all the fantastic people who've had faith in me to represent them and be part of their teams. So while I'm namedropping, special thanks to the companies run by Deirdre Crowley, Greg Whicker, Lisa Nelson, Julie Stuart, Sunshine Benbelkacem , Jodi Engleberg, Elizabeth Akers, and Nevada Lane. And of course a thank you to everyone in the IFVP tribe who continually inspire me with their incredible work.

Much Appreciation

Thank you for the great interview and I appreciate the further context. Absolutely love the shout outs. Glad to know you, Leah. I hope more people have that opportunity.
