From the first row of the Red Carpet (or How to Learn from the Stars)

For those of us who do not live in the USA (I live in Argentina), there are iconic pictures from American culture that we come across frequently. Like the “Red Carpet”, be it from the Oscars or the Golden Globe Awards. And I have always had the fantasy of visiting Los Angeles someday, and getting myself to the front row, where I can see all the famous stars!

In the 2019 Business Barometer, the IFVP community said: “We want to see the Stars in action”, “We want to learn from them”, “I want them to help me grow my practice” or “I want to always keep up with the latest in my field”. So, we offer you the opportunity to be in the front row of the Red Carpet, to see the most seasoned Visual Practitioners teaching their tricks and sharing their wealth of knowledge! Well, actually, it was our President, Sunny BenBelkacem, who had this great idea! Well, now she’s telling me she got the great idea from Jenny Trautman. Kudos to everyone who helped bring it to life!

This is why it is a pleasure for the IFVP Board of Directors to announce with great fanfare the OLS - Online Learning Series - a learning opportunity to continue developing and polishing your skills. Take the time to join our Live Zoom Session (because you love to see our Stars live!) or watch the recording on the IFVP website, at your leisure (and don't forget the pop-corn bowl).

If you have not seen the stellar OLS line-up, check it out!

Our Online Learning Series program starts off (or started, depending on when you are reading this) with:
Terry LaBan (USA) - March 30 at 2PM EST (link to Blog post)
Drawing People: Techniques for drawing attractive and diverse human figures to add warmth and empathy to your work.

Pre-register for Terry´s session here.

Continues with:
Ia Brix Ohmann (Denmark) - April 21 at 6PM CET
How to design a visual template to support your workshop facilitation: You'll be presented with the 9 steps involved in designing a visual template that can support a workshop. An important aspect of this is knowing the purpose of the workshop, who's attending and what tangible results you'd like to have when it's over. This will be covered in the "design compass", a useful tool for planning and designing workshops.

Pre-register for Ia´s session here.

And then you will see:
Avril Orloff (Canada) and Heather Martinez (USA) - May 6 at 11AM PST
The ABCs of Chart Design: Learn to design your charts as you create them! In this workshop we'll look at the basics
of design and how to balance the elements on the page to make your graphics flow. Topics will include (but not be limited to): composition, contrast, colour, white space, and (yes!) letters as a design element.

Followed by:
John Bloch (USA) - May 27 at 1PM EST
Art School for Facilitators: Making your Drawings More "Real": For facilitators who didn’t attend art school, you’ll learn linear perspective, strategies for shading 3-D objects, and using shadows to express weight, location, motion and in creating visual metaphors.

By the time it gets warm in the northern hemisphere and cold in the shouther world we will talk about Color!
Liisa Sorsa and Disa Kauk (USA) - June 12 at 1PM EST
They will show us how to choose colours for our charts, how to balance using the colour wheel, custom inks and shading, multiple colours versus one or two, how to 'pop' our art off the charts!

Expect to see more information in your inbox and in IFVP social media channels in the coming weeks and months. Also, make sure you are following @IFVP on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vimeo, and MeWe so you don’t miss it! Help us spread the word! The more, the merrier!

As you know, every Red Carpet needs some behind the scenes gossiping. Can you imagine what it means to manage a group of stars? Here it goes… Chaos! Delusions! Impossible requirements (Colombian flowers, Belgium chocolates, Italian sparkling water)! Fights for the size of the last name in the marquee! You name it!

Of course, none of this happened or will ever happen. But, my fantasy needed some scandal to be a fantasy!

Are you ready for a glamorous, rich and nourishing Online Learning Series Session?
Because Terry, Ia, Avril, Heather, John, Jim, Liisa, Disa, Greg, Anthony, Nevada, Lucinda, Renatta and Sam are!

See you there! All of you! Often!
